Tamarack in Winter

“Tamarack in Winter” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 14 x 16″ by Margie Guyot

I just love wandering around after the first snowfall of the year! This big old tamarack tree is at the end of my driveway. I looked up the wild tangle of branches and snow and thought it might be a hoot to try and paint it. I’d spent the first half of the day painting edges of paintings in the studio, so I was ready for a wild & wooly challenge! Here’s my setup:

Very light flurries fell; I was warm as toast in my heavy down coat; my 3 cats snoozed soundly in their warm beds. A good day overall.
