
I suspected the upper right portion of this painting was looking just a tad bare. Too empty. Oh, what to do? What to do? I ended up adding a tray of mounted butterflies. Not only do they help balance the composition but I realized one of the butterfly’s wing patterns was echoed by the pattern in the woven basket in the foreground. Which is good, according to the great wildlife artist, Robert Bateman.
The snow continues to fall. The wind, it howleth. And I painted zinnia petals until my eyes felt like they would drop out. Put my brushes away, retreated to the house and made a big pot of taco soup. Ah! Life is good!
