OK — I’m calling this “done”! I had to try this. Yes, it was probably against everything I’d been told: keep the backgrounds simple. And years ago Robert Bateman told our class to avoid the “pizza-look”, where it all looks like a jumbled mess when viewed from 25 feet away. But what the heck! I’m all for experimentation. There are only so many red barns one can bear to paint. I love a good challenge.

What’s up next? I think I’ll celebrate finishing this one by going out and painting a few plein air landscapes for a while. Just to clear my head. The goldenrod fields have been calling….
