This was one of those experimental paintings. The tough part was not so much the flowers, but the scarf. I used a #0 round Kolinsky sable to draw in some of the details. I’m not going to put in everything, but I wanted to see if a super-busy scarf like this would work out OK. It’s almost like the background is busier than the main subject. It’s certainly not the traditional way to do a still life, but I felt like experimenting. At one point this afternoon I had to take a break and go out and mow the lawn just to clear my head.
I was accompanied in the studio today by my #1 best cat, Picasso.
