Wash Day

“Wash Day” — plein air field study in oil on birch panel 8 x 10″ by Margie Guyot

A busy day, filled with all manner of chores. Started the day in the garden, weeding and tying up errant poppies. Did the laundry and hung out on my blue bottle clothesline. Trimmed up a raggedy weeping mulberry and redid the weed barrier, hardware cloth collar, mulched with dead leaves, fertilized, watered and replaced the deer cage around it. At one point I told a friend, “Everything except my face is sore!” Around 3:30 I considered revving up with a cup of coffee, hoping to find the energy to paint this view of my clothesline. No, I’d had enough coffee. Made myself set up and paint. Funny how the act of painting makes one forget every little discomfort. Except for biting flies…..

My setup.
