Schlepping

“2020: And Then the Martians Landed” — oil on canvas 30 x 48″ by Margie Guyot

Schlepping — the term we artists use for transporting artwork to & from galleries. Yesterday I schlepped this piece to Higher Art Gallery in Traverse City for a show opening called “Citizens Coping– Artists respond to 4 years of an administration”. Opens October 9th. Social-distancing observed. https://www.higherartgallery.com/ticket-purchase

During this Covid social distancing, some people turned to alcohol. Others turned to cookies and ice cream. The ways I have been coping have been gardening — and painting. It’s been a great time to experiment and practice portraits. When I’d hit a snag in the painting, I’d set down my brush and go pull weeds for a few hours. For this painting I dug out a few of my crazy hats and sat in front of a mirror. If nothing else, I got a lot of laughs while doing this!
