“Don’t Run Out!” Self-portrait

Have a big mirror, will paint. Some artists photograph, project and trace. Not me — I’m a purist.

Michigan Artists Gallery in Traverse City asked its “stable of artists” (I love it — that term always makes me feel so horsey!) to create something along the lines of Edvard Munch’s famous painting, “The Scream” and reflecting how the Pandemic has affected us. I didn’t want to do something horrific. Who’d want that on their wall? Always go for the silly — that’s my motto!

Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not one of those big-time toilet paper hoarders we all saw on the news. But living alone, miles from a big box store, I’ve learned to always keep a good supply of everything, including toilet paper.

Portrait-painting is relatively new to me and I’m having a lark!
