Red Orientals

“Red Orientals” — oil on canvas 24 x 24″ by Margie Guyot

I thought these were Asiatic lilies when I found them in the grocery store a few days ago. But they’re Orientals — and the smell is wonderful! My studio hasn’t smelled this good in a long time. I paired them up with an antique silk shawl with gold embroidery. And for once I didn’t have bright sunlight come flooding onto my setup! That’s what’s hard — starting a painting with one type of light (up here, it’s gloomy all winter) and then getting hit with bright sunlight the next day. Colors and shadows become totally different. No, the weather cooperated this time. Blowing snow here at the moment. Consistency is good!
