House on Center Street

“House on Center Street” — plein air field study in oil on birch panel 8×10″ by Margie Guyot

It was a dark and stormy night. That turned into a dark and stormy morning. But this is Michigan, so of course the sun came out in full glory this afternoon. I have this thing about lilacs. I’d love to do a lot more lilac paintings, but they kind of interfere with my flower-planting and gardening. Today the lilacs won out. I’d been eyeing this particular spot in Norwood, a tiny burg south of Charlevoix. Center Street is one block long. Then it turns into Second Street — also just a block long, but consisting mostly of giant (and deep) potholes. I hadn’t seen potholes like this since I left Peru!
