This was painted during one of the worst blizzards of the year! I was happy to have a bright, cheery subject to concentrate on. It was kind of like sitting in a springtime flower garden, birdies twittering, getting to look at this for hours on end as the wind howled and the snow fell. I almost used a green striped cloth for the background but decided oh – what the heck! – and used this vintage tablecloth. The roses were the usual pain-in-the-neck to paint, but challenges are a good thing. I’d much rather feel challenged than bored!
