“Rural Route – Bennett Hill Road” – plein air field study in oil on birch panel 8×10″ by Margie Guyot
Saturday I painted in two of my favorite, go-to spots: Mitchell Road and this one, Bennett Hill Road. After weeks of temperatures hanging right around the freezing mark, winter returned with a vengence. It was zero degrees, but unlike one of my painting heroes (Isaac Levitan), I had a nice, warm, cushy truck to sit inside. Let the winds howl!
This is looking east, just past Shooks Road. Originally I’d left out the mailbox (on the right), but stuck it back in the next day. Homeowners who want their mail delivered are required to keep the snow cleared so the carrier can easily drive up to the box. Instead of having to park, get out and clamber over the snowbank. Remnants of the mailman’s tires are part of the charm! Believe me, it’s a JOB, shoveling out that doggone mailbox every time the county road crew comes through!
Wonderful
