First plein air of the year for me. Done at the end of a super-busy, exhausting day. I’d overdone it in the garden, lugging buckets of dirt around, pulling weeds until I thought I’d drop dead. Uh-oh! Won’t do that again. I’m not 25 anymore, Anyway — this spot is along the little creek that runs through my property. I had a boardwalk built a couple years ago that allows me to get back there. Otherwise it would be impossible: swampy ground, covered in fallen logs and grass that grows 6 feet high.
I love this spot but it’s a challenge to paint. The light changes so quickly! I do what I can.
People always ask: do you ever see fish in that creek? I’ve only seen minnows, but they do tell me it’s a trout stream. Maybe when it’s flooding the biggies get up there. When I first saw this, I thought oh boy! I can lay down in it on a hot, summer day! But nope! The bottom is just pure, mucky clay….
