White Roses – Revisited

“White Roses” — oil on canvas 30 x 48″ by Margie Guyot

I painted these about a month ago with just a plain green background, But it just looked too BLAH! (below).

One of my teachers (Aspevig? Bateman?) once said, “Never be afraid to experiment. If you’re not happy with a painting and you try something — and it ruins it, so what? You’ve ruined a painting that you didn’t like that much anyway!”

Yesterday I tried putting some kind of border design into the fabric (below). I sent the photo to two artist friends and asked what they thought. Ach! They were too nice and said they liked it. I’m sure they just didn’t want to hurt my feelings.

I painted over the design, making it all solid again. Today I tried a new version, using some lavender brocade fabric as inspiration. I think the change perks the whole thing up!
