
Here’s a detail from the current project (above). I had to drag myself out to the studio this morning because the painting was looking so bad I dreaded looking at it. In fact, yesterday I jumped at the chance to go out plein air painting just so I could escape that nasty-looking mess I’d been working on. Here’s how it looked yesterday:

Actually, it’s an experiment. The fabric is covered with embroidery in bright colors. I didn’t know what would be easier: to paint designs onto the dark brown background — or paint the colorful designs first and then try to paint around them. I still couldn’t tell you which is best. Both ways are NO FUN. Note to self: remember this the next time you’re tempted to use this fabric!

after seeing the finished project; definitely needed the crocheting into the solid color squares. Comes alive, yours is shouting alive, screaming and yelling. jim gibbons
