Out on the Ice

“19 Degrees – Grand Traverse Bay” — plein air field study in oil on birch panel 8 x 16″ by Margie Guyot

I suppose it wasn’t a good idea to test out a tube of marijuana lip gloss on the way home from Traverse City. By the time I got home I just wanted to crawl into bed with the kitties. But it was sunny! How could I waste such a beautiful day (even thought I felt wrecked)? I threw my painting gear into the truck and went down to Barnes Park. I knew it’d be rough. The snow was knee-deep and it was a struggle carrying all my gear without falling. And then there was the steep hill going down to the water. I trudged along, taking baby-steps like the 70-year-old woman I am. If I fell, maybe I’d lay there, freeze and the coyotes would come and eat my face off. But I made it OK. Set up and began painting with the sun in my face and wind whipping, making my eyes blur with tears. Yeah, it was tough. But it was so much fun! And beautiful. I only did the one today. Figured I should quit while I was ahead. One good painting is better than 20 bad ones. Ah…. and then the trek back up the hill, through the knee-deep snow! Stay tuned, though….. there will be more!

My setup….

And now it’s back home! Crawling into a nice, warm bed with the kitties…..
