Day 1: Paperwhites

As I worked on my last painting, I’d keep looking down on this clump of paperwhites, thinking I should paint them. But they’re so tall! How to fit them into a painting? I decided I may as well paint them the way I’ve been looking at them — looking almost straight down on them. That tropical bird dish was a fantastic garage sale find. Hand-carved and painted. Reminds me of my Peru trips. We camped in the jungle, on sandbars and swam in rivers. One day we saw a flock of toucans in the distance. They were making a racket. And their calls sounded like dogs barking!
