Sunflowers — An Update

“Sunflowers” — oil on canvas 18 x 18″ by Margie Guyot

I’d meant to work on the yellow roses painting I’d started yesterday, but it was still too wet. Then I looked at my “old” sunflower painting from maybe 8 or 10 years ago. I always felt it looked a bit too conservative. Too dull. Inspired by one of the silk scarves I’d found in an antiques store last weekend, I decided to throw caution to the wind and go really wild. As Robert Bateman (the great wildlife artist) once told our class, “If you’re not satisfied with something, go ahead and change it. If you wreck it, just remember: you didn’t like that painting anyway!”

This is how the painting used to look:

The “old” sunflowers….

Hmmmm — now I’m thinking there are some other dull, boring flower paintings that could use jazzing up!
