Today’s Quickie

“Farmstead on Scott Road” — plein air field study in oil on birch panel 8 x 10″ by Margie Guyot

Felt very restless today. I always feel that way after finishing a still life. Kind of hate for the fun to end. And what next? Another winter painting? Still, I wanted to paint something. I do the proverbial running in circles, pacing back & forth, fluttering like a little bird until I get inspiration. Went so far as to sweep the kitchen floor and wipe down the countertops with bleach. Yeah, that bad. Well, I couldn’t figure out if it was going to be sunny or cloudy. Finally I jump-started with a cup of magic elixir (coffee) and decided to drive somewhere – anywhere! – to paint something. Didn’t go far, though. This old farmstead is just down the road from my house, about two-tenths of a mile. Sighing, I pulled over and decided to give it a go. And it was a good thing. By the time I finished, thick clouds had rolled back in. Good-bye blue shadows and sparkling snow!
