Snow Day

“Snowing – Larch at the end of My Driveway” — plein air field study in oil on birch panel 8 x 16″ by Margie Guyot

Back into the deep freeze lately. And lots of snow. I was itching to get out and do some plein air painting, but it’s a bit of a challenge when the temperature’s only about 11 and the snow’s knee-deep. Sometimes I’ll get into the truck and park out on the road and paint, but right now that’s risky. More than once I’ve been happily painting along to look up suddenly and see a big snowplow barreling down on me! So I parked my easel in front of the garage and painted the big larch along the driveway. About midway through the painting it started snowing – again. Snow was all over on my palette and the painting. I thought it’d be ruined, but I think it made it OK. Here’s my setup:

That was kind of a warm-up. From there I went into the studio and started a painting with tulips. But you’ll have to wait until tomorrow for that post….
