February Tulips

“February Tulips” — oil on canvas 24 x 24″ by Margie Guyot

I painted this last winter and hung it on the wall. Yet every time I’d look at it, I didn’t like it. Yesterday I decided to change the background, making it more like a blizzard. Which is what we’ve been having here lately. And here’s what this painting used to look like (below):

About that tablecloth — it’s a handwoven piece I found in a little shop down in Peru about 15 years ago. It looked unlike any other in the shop — and I loved it. Had to haggle a bit for it — it’s expected — and as soon as I paid for it, I tucked it under my arm and ran out and onto the bus. In case the shop owner changed his mind.
