Three Fall Still Lifes

“Maples along Kiessel Road – October” — plein air field study in oil 8 x 10
by Margie Guyot

Here are three fall paintings I took over to North Seas Antiques and Gallery in Charlevoix this morning. It’s just in time for Apple Fest. Finally (!) the colors are starting to change around here. It’s been a strange summer. We still have fields of green corn. I look forward to getting out to paint the fall colors in the weeks ahead!

“Maples at Fox Mission – October” — plein air field study in oil 8 x 10″ by Margie Guyot

Fox Mission is the name of a failed luxury subdivision right down the road from my house, on Old Dixie Highway in Eastport. I used to like to drive up there and paint view of Lake Michigan. Now they have a no-trespassing sign posted, so I hesitate driving up there. I painted this last fall. The distant clouds were just the right touch.

This area is north of Lake Charlevoix, in the vicinity of Horton’s Bay and Boyne City. Lots of beautiful, rolling hills up here! I painted this last fall, spending the day wandering around in search of “wow” views. I noticed a few questionable places – possible meth labs? – tucked into the woods. Probably best not to paint them…..
