When the news on the radio is too upsetting, I put on CDs, some of which I haven’t listened to in 10+ years. Yesterday I had on “Garland Herschi’s Cows”, by Phillip Kent Bimstein. Bizarre! My favorite track is #9: “The Door”. It kept me laughing over the impossibly long, creaking barn door, masterfully set to music. It was The Perfect Music to listen to while figuring out the wild streaks of the tablecloth.
Many of my still life paintings have a psychological undercurrent of my feelings about the state of the world. There’s little I can do, other than to create “my own little world” in the studio, then “solve its problems”. In other words, the world can be going to hell in a handbasket, but I can figure it out. I can solve it. Dammit!
