I’d just come from checking out possibilities at Barnes Township Park. Not much there, but this view on the way to Old Dixie Highway caught my eye. I loved the warm rays of late-day sunlight streaking across the road. In the distance lies a field of corn-stubble, backed by a hillside of cedar. On the left is kind of a semi-swampy area, with cattails and a few cedars.
Lesson learned: ALWAYS bring my box of extra paints! I’d left it in the studio and wouldn’t you know I had no yellow — and only a small dab of yellow ochre! And no viridian. I was crippled! Mixing the sky color — kind of a pale, yellowish seafoam green was nearly impossible. I had to limp along with a mix of yellow ochre and Bice (a pale blue from Vasari). I’d have stayed out and done another painting after this but without yellow…..!
Great colors
