Coming home from picking up paintings from a show in East Jordan, I had to stop for a moment at this spot. This is one of my most favorite views. I’ve painted it in all kinds of weather, all times of the year. My house is just over the ridge on the right and I was looking forward to unloading the truck, refilling the bird feeders and vegetating in my pajamas with a Netflix.
We’d had a minor heat wave up here this past week, with temperatures in the 40’s. The sun even came out several times! Most of the snow had melted. Then it began snowing again today, bringing feelings of cheer and excitement to us “true” northerners. There’s something exhilarating about a good-old blizzard that southerners probably would never understand!
I quickly unloaded my paintings into the studio, threw my paints into the truck and returned to this spot. Propping my birch panel against the steering wheel, I painted as quickly as possible. Time – and darkness – won’t wait!
