We had our first frost last night. Now the trees will really start changing colors. Some have already, but I think the majority still are pretty much green. I’ve got my eyes on a couple spots to paint once the colors are in high gear. Meanwhile, since it was sunny today, I decided to prowl around and see what I could come up with. I stopped at a favorite spot on Toad Lake Road, thinking I’d paint a certain “cow path”, but it was late in the afternoon and in full shade. Instead, I turned around and painted the view in the opposite direction.
Here’s my setup:

I also stopped along M-88 at another favorite spot: a long view of a cornfield. I was glad to be standing in full sun — it was only in the low 50’s and slightly breezy. Some of the cornfields here have already been harvested. They’ll probably get this one next week.

I liked the way the sunlight was hitting the blades of grass and corn, making them sparkle. Swarms of birds flew overhead at times — starlings? I think they call them “murmurs” when flying like that. A pretty sight! Alas — rain in returns tomorrow. Maybe then I’ll finish that pumpkin painting.
And here’s my setup:

Toad Lake is one of my favorites. Love it
