
About a week ago I woke up in the middle of the night, “seeing” this. I just knew I had to paint it. The goldenrod is in its full glory now, and the swamp is full of it. Miraculously, my ancient plein air easel was able to hold a 24×30″ stretched canvas. If it’d been windy, it would have blown off in an instant. But I was determined!
I was accompanied by my two adoring cats. Here’s Picasso:

And thank goodness for my wonderful wooden walkway! Painting out here would have been impossible otherwise. It’s a real swamp: very gooey-mucky, littered with countless fallen logs. And the grass grows about 6 feet high. Here’s my setup:
