“Half-Asleep in Frog Pajamas”

“Half-Asleep in Frog Pajamas” — oil on canvas 60×48″ by Margie Guyot

It’s a title borrowed from a book by Tom Robbins, one of my favorite novelists. Painted in late Spring, when the days were miserably chilly, dark and rainy here in northern Michigan. What better time to do another big fantasy painting? I just have to cut loose once in a while. From here on out, it’ll be days and days of plein air landscapes.

Yes, that’s me, floating out in my yard at night, bats caught in my hair, possums gorging on a birthday cake. Flying saucers hover in the distance. Garden gnomes have come to life. Doesn’t everybody see this kind of stuff right before they fall asleep? Oh, for a pair of frog pajamas….!

OK — out to resume the weed-pulling. Too cloudy here today to go landscape-painting.

    1. Ha ha! Well, little plein airs pay for my art supplies. Galleries around here don’t want surreals — tourists don’t buy them. It’s nice to switch off — keeps me from being bored.
