Day 1: Cattleya Orchid

This winter I’ve become a plant babysitter. Today my friend Lucy gave me this beautiful cattleya orchid to keep an eye on for a week or two. Of course I just had to paint it! The sun was shining brightly, making interesting colors and highlights on the leaves. I had to let the yardwork go this afternoon and try to capture the light. The background? I’ll figure out what to do with that in the coming days. Spring is a crazy-busy time around here. Snow’s finally melting, the yard’s full of fallen branches that must be raked up, daffodils & crocuses blooming — the list goes on & on. But at least I have the orchid leaves “nailed”.
