An Oldie from the Back Room

This is an in-process painting. I’d started it about 2 – 3 years ago, then stuck it into the back room. I found it the other day while trying to straighten up back there. Even found a really cool, portable rocking chair I’d been missing for at least a year! I’d given up on this painting, I remember, because I hadn’t thought through the composition at the time. When I found it the other day, I thought I’d give it a crack.

This is what it looked like:

The first thing I did was to add another orchid (on the right). That shade of orchid paint seems to be taking forever to dry. Also added a conch shell. Can never have too many conch shells….

The fabric is I believe an antique piano shawl. Very cool. Embroidered. But could I find it now? I spent well over an hour in the back room, going through every box of fabric. No dice! So I had to improvise. But what to do with that big blank space in the upper left/middle area? Hah. Like I always say, when in doubt, add a cat or two! But just try to get cats to POSE! Here, I’m working from a photo of Mr. Wonderful:

Then I added Picasso. What the heck. There was plenty of room.

So this is how it looks at the end of the day today. Still work to do on it….. Maybe it’ll come out good. Stay tuned!
