Bennett Road, Looking West

“Bennett Road – Looking West” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 8×10″ by Margie Guyot

Painted it from the inside of my car yesterday afternoon, this is at the corner of Bennett Hill and Ellsworth Roads. It’s one of my favorite roads to paint. It doesn’t show up very well in this photo, but there were dramatic, dark storm clouds far out over Lake Michigan, waiting to blow over and dump snow on us. I had a thermos of hot green tea with lemon & honey, classical music on the radio and the heater on “low toast”. Cozy! A bit cramped, but I was having a blast. Here’s the view from inside my car:

And here’s my palette (on the passenger seat). Turpentine was in a can next to my left ankle. Nearly kicked it over a couple times.

I saw two bald eagles. My camera is just a point-and-shoot, so it’s a miracle I could get any kind of shot at all….

  1. Nice to see one of your favorite spots painting with snow on the ground. It’s not easy to paint snow scenes, nice job!
