Didn’t Want to Waste a Day…

“Maple Tree in November” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 8×10″ by Margie Guyot

Rain’s coming in two days –but today was gorgeous! I’d been eyeing this maple tree, meaning to paint it. It’s right along my driveway. Rather than staying in the studio, struggling with a most-difficult still life, I just had to get OUT!

Here’s my setup:

But wait! There’s more….. I drove over to another beloved spot, Shooks Road. By this time, there were fabulous, big, puffy clouds gliding by like luxury cruise ships. I parked along the side and set up, looking south:

Yes, this is another seasonal road — one of my favorites. It’s mostly a mix of sand and mud. Don’t attempt to drive this in winter unless you have 4WD. You can see some swirls in the foreground from the last heavy rain. A few dried, reddish leaves remain here and there. Beyond this are apple and cherry orchards and a small winery. The famed Toad Lake is nearby as well.
