My Driveway – October

“My Driveway – October” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 8×10″ by Margie Guyot

Do you ever have the urge to just stay home and sit in your driveway? If you’re an introvert like I am, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about. It was just such a gorgeous day! Why ruin it by driving to town, buying useless crap? I set up my easel and hacked away on this, enjoying the warm sunshine. Rain and snow coming before we know it.

Here’s my setup:

Every once in a while I’d hear curious noises behind me. I’d turn around to look. Nothing. Then I saw it: a raccoon, ripping away on a bag of potting soil in the garage. I high-tailed it over there, scolding the bugger to get the hell outta there. It took a bit of yelling and banging trash cans around, but he finally got the idea to leave. Sorry, no photos.

And yes, I’m still pecking away on a larger painting of tree roots. I will post when finished. Otherwise, the day to day progress is about as exciting as watching potatoes baking…..

  1. When one’s driveway is as beautiful as yours, it is understandable why you would want to be there. All the fruits of your labor of planting beautiful things for every season are obvious.I recently read about the benefits of raccoons – keeping snakes and such in check. So maybe that was a good sign.
