Slough Road, east of Ellsworth, is a beautiful road. I’ve found some great spots to paint there. Except in rainy weather or snow — then you do NOT want to be on that road! Total quagmire, even with 4WD low. This afternoon I was looking for a nice, shady spot to stand under while painting. Right at the corner of Slough and Boss, I found it. Although I was at the mercy of clouds of dust when people drove by.
I almost called this post “Painting With Turkeys”. A rather confused-looking hen turkey came wandering out of the field and strolled around in loops for a while.

I didn’t see any babies following her. Maybe she was out on a joyride while her sister was babysitting the kids.

This part of Slough Road is “seasonal” — not plowed in winter. And the road sign identifying Boss Road was missing. I had to look on my GPS to figure it out. After last spring’s rather frightening adventure of driving into some sort of “meth camp” and its angry inhabitants (!), I’ve become somewhat wary leery of exploring obscure roads. But luckily, the few people who drove by today were friendly. What the heck — I needed a little excitement.
Here’s my setup:
