Day 2: A Slippery Slope

Today I had to schlep more paintings up to the gallery in Petoskey, so that took away a couple hours of painting time. Snuck in a little nap, then returned to the studio to try to work this out. The problem I’m trying to deal with is: how to paint a white (or nearly white) flower against a bright sky. I went back outside and gave it a good look. A white (or very pale) flower actually looks dark against a very bright, white-ish sky. And the same flower looks very white-ish against a dark background. Lots to keep in mind! And of course it’s oil paint and very wet and gooey at this point. But I’m making headway, I think. Tomorrow I’ll snip off one of the blossoms and refer to it in the studio. It was a good day to work inside, anyway. A bit rainy in these parts….
