Norwood Beach

“Norwood Beach” — plein air field study in oil on birch panel 8 x 16″ by Margie Guyot

What a gorgeous day to be out painting on Lake Michigan! There are all kinds of loosely-knit artist groups up in this area who go painting together. You could go out every day of the week with a different group. Norwood is one of our favorite spots. The beach is much smaller this year, due to rising lake levels. I was glad to get away from gardening chores and house-painting this morning! There are several dead gnats in this painting. They love wet oil paint. But it could be worse. I learned years ago to avoid painting at the lake during a midge-hatching. Hundreds of them, larger than gnats, all with a taste for oil paints and painters!

My setup. Thank goodness for that umbrella!
