I always marvel at artists who do extremely detailed, finished pencil drawings before finally picking up a brush. I’m far too impatient for that. Besides, I was a music major in college. I wasn’t taught “the correct way”. Sometimes I begin a painting with just a very minimal setup, a vague idea. I’ll draw something in, then wipe it all off, then start again. And I’ll take frequent breaks, going out to pull weeds or mowing the lawn. Physical labor helps clear the mind….
