When the afternoon sun starts shining through the back of your canvas, it’s time to quit! Studio painting had been good lately, with days and days of dark, snowy skies, Polar vortexes, zero temperatures, howling winds, etc. But then the sun came out today, shocking everybody. After using beautiful peachy-coral roses in the last painting, I thought it would be a lark to get some lavender roses this time. OY ! I’d forgotten how difficult it is to work in lavender tones! Some colors just can’t be mixed. In theory you know how to mix colors, but the chemical properties of oil pigments aren’t always very cooperative. OK — Excuses, excuses!
