I love doing portraits, but they’re a hard sell. So why not paint my favorite animal? It’s a nice break from painting still lifes or landscapes — especially during the dark, gloomy days of winter.

Just try getting a cat to hold still for a painting! I have to rely on photo references. This red tiger cat is an invention — it was done from a b&w photo of my gray tiger cat, Mr. Wonderful.
