I’d painted at this spot last Friday and liked it so much I had to return — and paint almost the same view again. I stood on a slightly different spot for this one, getting a slightly different composition. And it was a bit earlier in the afternoon, so the light and shadows were a touch different.
On the other side of this little hillside (which is actually a dune) is the shoreline of Lake Michigan. The dune and pines blocked all of the wind. At one point I had to take off my down jacket — I was getting too hot!
Antrim Creek Natural Area is quite a popular spot for hikers and Petoskey stone hunters. I feel very fortunate that it’s so close to my house. The next sunny day we have I want to return and paint along the creek.
