Pink Princess

“Pink Princess” — oil on canvas 30×40″ by Margie Guyot

Pink Princess is a variety of philodendron I found in the grocery store a few weeks ago. It reminds me of my trips into the Peruvian jungle. I’d see strange plants and wonder how long before they would start showing up in nurseries back here in northern Michigan. So far, this plant seems to enjoy living in my studio, listening to classical music all day.

Picasso, my wonderful cat, taking a snooze next to Pink Princess. Sometimes he’d rearrange things, though.

That dark, almost-black green in the leaves is a mix of thalo green and alizarin crimson. The light pink of the tablecloth was mixed with a tiny hint of green to gray it down a little.

I did this painting while waiting for the snow to melt (it’s still hanging on out in the swamp) — and gardening season to begin. Soon I’ll be roaming the landscape, doing plein air landscape paintings….
