“Mr. Wonderful”

“Mr. Wonderful” — oil on canvas board – 18×18″ by Margie Guyot

My poor cat died this weekend and I wanted to do a memorial painting of him. Originally abandoned in a box in the Eastport Post Office, the post mistress put an entry on Facebook showing the 4 orphaned kitties. I already had 2 (or 3?) cats at the time but I thought the more, the merrier.

Mr. Wonderful quickly decided there was nothing finer than prowling through the woods, crossing the creek, and teaching the neighbor womens’ cats who was boss. To stop that, I used the Silva Method of Mind Control on him: You must not go over to the neighbors! They hate you! They have guns and will SHOOT you! Stay in your own yard! In truth, my neighbors would never have shot him, but it was a simple message — and it worked. He did not bother those neighbor cats ever again. He retired from fighting and had a happy, well-fed, leisurely life of about 14 years.

Right now he’s in a plastic bag out in the garage. Come springtime, he’ll be buried in my yard, planted over with flowers.

He is missed!

Note: cat paws! Just try to get a cat to hold his paws so you can draw them! I did a little sketch this morning of Picasso’s left paw (below). I’m going to keep an eye on him and try to get some more sketches of his paws.
