“Art Imitates Life” ?

“My Swamp — October” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 8×16″ by Margie Guyot

There she is — my swamp. A mushy, weedy area, littered with all manner of fallen trees and rotting logs. A home of deer, coyotes, bobcats, owls, crows, frogs and turtles. I love this place, filled with the fresh, clean scents of the earth. My private escape. Lately my life’s been a series of frustrations, especially since spending over $1,000 on a new laptop that I apparently cannot use because I need a cell phone to receive a texted code in order to go online. Alas, I live in a “dead zone” with cell dicey phone reception. So why get one? I don’t really care to be in constant contact with the world 24 hours a day. I boxed the laptop up and am letting it sit until I feel up to facing it again. This old laptop still works.

Anyway, to attempt to escape this frustration, I decided I must paint. The swamp was calling. Who cares if it was dark and gloomy? The view of trees, branches, snarls, fallen detritus and rot apparently reflected my angst to a “T”.

All my outdoor furniture was packed up for the winter with the exception of this hanging chair. Such a comfy seat! Here’s my setup:
