A Good Day for Plein Airs…

“Along Bennett Hill Road” — plein air field study in oil on board 8×16″ by Margie Guyot

Seems like this summer has just flown by! And I’ve been swamped with many projects: still lifes, a couple commissions and a portrait, plus gardening and tending 2 pampered kitty cats. But today I decided what-the-heck — I’m going out painting! The first part of the day was dark and broody; the second half of the day was glorious, although a tad chilly and quite windy.

I was nearly done with this when a wicked gust of wind ripped the painting off the easel, sending it face-down (of course!) in the sand. Oh well. Adds to the authenticity.

For the second painting I headed down another favorite road: Peebles Road. Part of it is “seasonal”, kind of wild & wooly, winding through the woods and some cornfields. The Queen Anne’s lace and goldenrod are in their full glory. In a few more weeks the trees will be changing color. This is one of my favorite roads to paint (as if you haven’t guessed by now). To the right and past the trees is our beloved Toad Lake.

And here’s my setup.
