Day 5: Another Lesson Learned…

If you’re wondering what happened to Day 4, it was so hideous I couldn’t bring myself to post it. This morning when I entered the studio, I saw what was wrong: I’d just blobbed on vague shapes of color yesterday, figuring I’d draw in the shapes today. Well, ha ha! Never again!

I was dealing with the designs on the scarf. What I realized is that it’s best to draw in the designs first. Here they’re all outlined in thin black. I found it made much more sense to me to just go ahead and do the outlines of the designs first, rather than just dabbing on blobs of color, thinking I’d correct things later. Here’s what it looked like yesterday:

So today I drew in the designs and whited-out the “errant shapes”. I still need to figure out the pitcher and glasses, but I think I can handle that. Notice how dead the gladiolas are! Yep — Rule #1: if it’s apt to die, paint it FIRST!
