
My friend Lucy called yesterday, telling me “the glads are in!” Thank goodness for that — I was getting sick and tired of green landscapes. So tired that I didn’t post the last two I’d painted. I flew over to the grocery store in Central Lake and snatched the brightest, reddest gladiolas they had. Red and orange are my most favorite colors.
This morning I set up a still life and of course that drew Mr. Wonderful into the studio right away. Did he want his plush, cozy cat “nest”? Oh, nooooo! He lounged all day, snoozing on top of my setup. He only stirred to beg for more cat cookies.
Fearing the blooms would frazzle out almost immediately, I started painting them in, leaving all the rest. Normally I’ll draw in a basic sketch of the general composition first, but I figured it would be better to address the flowers first. So keep your fingers crossed!
