
I’d originally planned on painting a view of the ice pileup along Lake Michigan, but couldn’t find any views I liked. All the good stuff was “way out there” — too far to safely walk out that far. And walking in the snow is still kind of tricky! Instead, what caught my eye was this clump of trees in Norwood Park. I loved the way the shadows fell across the snowbank. Kind of tricky to paint: I had to paint in the background before tackling the trees. Had to try to remember to paint it thinly so I could paint the darker trees over. You can see how far out the ice was. Yes, I wasn’t sure how this would come out, but I think it turned out pretty fine.
