Moth Orchid, Snow Path….

“Moth Orchid” oil on canvas 16×12″ by Margie Guyot

This morning I wanted to paint the moth orchid I’d bought the other day. I really wanted to go out painting landscapes, truth be told, but didn’t feel like braving the snow and ice. Tired of winter, I guess!

Here’s my setup:

Very bright, but cold! I felt frustrated. I’d love to do a bunch of ice paintings, but the snow’s been so deep it’s been difficult to get down to the lakeshore. Then the radio said we’d be in for another inch of snow, possibly starting sometime after 2 PM. I did odd chores, stashing my 6-ft Santa and snowmen, repainting the woodpecker suet holder, etc. But I still wanted to paint. Looking out the back door of the studio, I saw this view. Aha! But I had to be quick — clouds were moving in fast!

Here’s my setup. This back room isn’t heated, so I wore my goosedown parka.

That’s a relatively new path down to the creek. I began clearing it last summer. I loved the way the rays of sunlight ran across the snow….
