I titled this one “October Bouquet” because the flowers I used are typically blooming here in early October: zinnias, dahlias and Chinese Lanterns. Of course I used silk flowers (it IS February). It’s been so cold and snowy here, I’ve been doing lots of still lifes. And I always try to use a lot of color. Happy to be finished with this one — those stripes were driving me mad! And it didn’t help one bit to have both cats rearranging things all the time! Here are Mr. Wonderful and Picasso.

The sun made a rare appearance here this afternoon, so I headed out to see what I could paint. I’d have loved to have gone down to the beach to paint the frozen lake,, but it’s been very hard-walking in our snow lately. Many layers of snow, partially frozen/thawed/frozen over & over again make it difficult to walk (at least for me! I’m old!) Instead, I drove to a favorite spot just north of my house: Brant Road, east off Old Dixie Highway. I wimped out and sat inside the car and painted this view:

Not much to this road. A private drive heads to a residence at the top of the ridge. And a seasonal road veers off to the left, winding along the side of the road through a beautiful woods. Seasonal roads are not plowed in the winter, so it’s impossible to get through. After I finished painting this, I stepped outside and held the painting up for the photo:
