Clobbered!

One of the hazards of plein air painting in the winter: getting clobbered by a big gob of snow from an overhead tree branch! Thank goodness I was nearly done with the painting.

Here’s my setup in back of the garage. I liked the patterns of the deer trails and the dash of bright sunlight across the snow. It’s been WEEKS since we’ve seen sunshine here.

I’d just finished doing a slew of very complicated still life paintings and was itching to get out and do some plein air landscapes. They’re generally far more relaxing, being out in the fresh air, enjoying the colors, shapes, sounds and smells of nature. Although sometimes it has its hazards!

Of course right after I finished this one, the clouds rolled back in again. Hurry, Spring!!!
