My driveway’s lined with tamaracks. They’re odd trees, growing in strange shapes, with crazy branches that seem to go where they want. In the fall their needles go from green to a deep, yummy caramel color — and then drop to the ground. This particular tree has had limbs blown off by storms over the years. I’d looked at it many times, meaning to paint it. Yesterday I loaded my gear onto my trusty, plastic sled and set up along the edge of the driveway, leaving room for an expected FedEx truck to pass. Of course FedEx cancelled out (as usual).
Here’s my setup. Yes, I was standing among my rugosa roses. They’ll survive.

Here’s a close-up:

My trash can of oil-soaked paper towels (non-recyclable) was getting pretty full, so I ended the day with a hike out to the “burn pile”. A rather festive way to celebrate Christmas Eve!

Merry Christmas! Happy Boxing Day! Happy New Year!
You always find the best things to paint right there.
Love the tamarack tree!
